TECHNOLOGIES AND AUTOMATIC CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR
THE PROCESSES OF ROLLING AND HARDWARE PRODUCTION

THE SYSTEM OF CONTROL OVER THE ROLLED STOCK CUTTING
PROCESS ON THE CONTINUOUS BILLET MILL (Version 2)


The system's purpose is to minimize the rolling mill scraps in the shape of crops and the amount of random length of the bars at the end of the main and the bypass line of the continuous billet mill, as well as to keep a reliable record of the produced rolled stock.

The system's functions are:
  • to measure the stocks on the continuous billet mill .
  • to measure the roughing length at the exit from the roughing train of the continuous billet mill;
  • to measure the semi-finished rolled stock length at the entrance into the finishing train of the continuous billet mill;
  • to measure the length of the front and the rear of the finished billet;
  • to measure and control the free cutting length on the flying shears;
  • to measure the finished (actual) length of the cutoff bars.
  • to design the cutting plan for the main and bypass line of the continuous billet mill;
  • uniform nonresidual cutting;
  • cutting into the bars of specified length according to the programmed setting;
  • cutting into the billets of specified length of several settings, the values of which are calculated by means of multifactor analysis, adjusted for the minimal total amount of scraps on the continuous billet mill and at the rerolling shops;
  • to control the length of the cutoff bars on the flying shears according to the cutting plan;
  • to display the on-line information about the cutting process and its results on the special consoles of the main and bypass line control posts and the post of the supervisor of the inspection department;
  • to control the system modes directly from the special consoles installed on the control posts of the continuous billet mill;
  • to keep full record of the cutting process (full record of each ingot cutting, full record of all sensors operation, record of all exceptional situations on the mill etc.).
  • to keep record of the metal, rolled on the continuous billet mill, and of the cutting scraps;
Hardware:
  • Two microprocessor control systems (MCS) on the basis of PC1001 facilities;
  • Two personal IBM compatible computers for recording, cutting process indication and integration into the factory information network.
  • Special supervisor's consoles.
  • Uninterrupted power supply.
Software: special-purpose real-time operating system including MCS, software environment for the rolled stock record.

The system is introduced at the Blooming Mill-2 of KRIMMW "Krivorozhstal".
