TECHNOLOGIES AND AUTOMATIC CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR
THE PROCESSES OF ROLLING AND HARDWARE PRODUCTION

AUTOMATIC CONTROL SYSTEM FOR INGOTS HEATING


The system's purpose is to carry out the automatic ingots heating in the soaking pits of the roughing mill with a view to reducing the power consumption in the periods of roughing mill hunting (by means of automatic change for the energy-saving process charts), as well as increasing the maintainability of the equipment in the soaking pits division of the roughing mill (by means of preventing the occurrence and development of unstable and emergency modes of operation).

The system's functions are:
  • to collect the data about the process variables of each cell in the soaking pits group from the primary monitoring instruments and devices.
  • to control the actuators in order to maintain the process variables within the preset limits.
  • to control the process of ingots heating in the automatic mode within the preset initial melting conditions.
  • to display the trends of the main process variables.
  • to record and store technological data and events.
  • to transfer the data to the chief furnaceman workstation with a view to creating backup copies of the process records.
  • to enter data about the heats and transfer them to the lower level workstations during the process of automatic ingots heating.
  • to display the current values of the process variables of the soaking pits cells on the chief furnaceman workstation monitor.
  • to transfer the data to the special-purpose data bank on the system's server with a view to their filing and processing.
  • to process and print out the records of the ingots heating process.
  • to update the technological data bank with the standard heating schedules.
Hardware:
  • Control-computer based on the industrial workstation Advantech IPC - 610, with P-166 processor, 8 MB on-line storage and hard disk with 16 MB capacity, CAN network adapter.
  • Galvanic isolation modules Advantech ADAM - 3014, Grayhill 70G.
  • Uninterrupted power supply APC Smart - UPS (700 VA)
  • Chief furnaceman computer Advantech IPS - 6806S
Software: object-oriented software environment, written in "C" language functioning in the operational system DOS - 6.22 and Windows - 98/2000.

The system is introduced at the slabbing mill of the Integrated Metallurgical Works "Zaporozhstal" (Ukraine, Zaporozhye). The improved version of the system is being developed for the soaking pits division of the Blooming Mill-2 of KRIMMW "Krivorozhstal".

The system can be efficiently used on any heaters of metallurgical and engineering works.
