TECHNOLOGIES AND AUTOMATIC CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR
THE PROCESSES OF ROLLING AND HARDWARE PRODUCTION

INFORMATION SYSTEM OF THE HOT-ROLLED STEEL CUTTER


The system's purpose is to ensure the rational cutting of the process workpieces on the shears and to keep automatic record of the quality metal's weight in the roughing plant.

The system's functions are:
  • to plan the cutting of the process workpiece into slabs;
  • to locate the front end of stock relative to the shears cutting line in the process of the stock positioning before cutting out the slab (bloom) and to fix the slab's (bloom's) length at the moment of its cutting out;
  • to calculate the weight of the cut slabs (blooms);
  • to provide for the visual inspection of the crops length on the monitor of the system's console;
  • to record the results of the length measurement and to calculate the slabs' (blooms') weight;
  • functions of self-diagnostics of the system's operation.
The system's main specifications:
  • the system is the information and measuring one;
  • supply voltage - ~ 220V, 50Hz;
  • the system provides for the mode of operation with automatic and manual selection of the measurement range;
  • ranges of length measurement: 2 - 5 m; 10 - 12,5 m;
  • error of length measurement - ±20 mm;
  • information displaying facilities - TFT monitor 15";
  • mode of the measurement results representation - crude estimate linear scale which reads to 50 mm; 5-digit numeric code, which corresponds to the absolute value, digital resolution makes 1mm;
  • symbolic mode of the technological data representation;
  • the system provides for 2 external communication channels: channel 1 — RS-422 interface; channel 2 — Ethernet network.
The system's components:
  • main computer;
  • remote control console;
  • camera-recorders, one of which provides for visual inspection of the crops length, the others - measurement of the slabs' (blooms') length;
  • remote unit which collects and converts the information about the condition of the production equipment sensors.
Short description of the system's operation:

The beginning of the stock cutting cycle is defined by the system at the moment of the stock approach to the shears. At that moment the system receives technological information about the given stock, on the basis of which the rational - from the standpoint of the optimal crops size - cutting schedule is calculated and displayed on the control console.

After the cutter has removed the crops from the front of the process workpiece, the latter moves forward to be cut in slabs (blooms). Starting from the 2 meters mark relative to the cutting line, the workpiece front is continuously located by the system and displayed as a scale and as an absolute value. At the moment of cutting the length of the cut slab (bloom) is measured, the system identifies the slab (bloom) and calculates its weight. When the cutting cycle is accomplished, the calculated and measured values concerning each slab (bloom) are filed with the reference to time and identification number. This information is transferred to the factory system "Steel - Rolled stock".

To define the crops length at the stock front more accurately, the cutter has a possibility to display the image of the shears travel zone with the coordinate scale, superimposed onto the visible surface of the process workpiece.

The system's design and hardware ensure its error-free performance under hard working conditions (dust, high temperature, vibration), which exist at the rolling plants of the metallurgical works.

The system was introduced into trial operation at the roughign plant of the OJSC "Zaporozhstal".

The system can be efficiently used on the rolling mills of metallurgical works.
